ROBERT PICKTON

Robert William Pickton was born October 24, 1949 in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. He inherited property along with two other siblings and when portions of the family property were purchased for development the Picktons became quite well off financially.

The Piggy Palace

Robert and his brother David threw outrageous and wild parties regularly, using a converted building near their pig farm that they dubbed "The Piggy Palace." These parties lasted all hours of the night and were attended by numerous citizens of Vancouver, friends, and prostitutes from downtown’s Eastside, which was a haven for drug addicts and sex workers.

The “Piggy Palace” was also used to host charity events and functions on behalf of worthy groups and sports organizations. The Picktons ran a registered charity called “Piggy Palace Good Times Society.” It’s believed Robert preyed on female victims he came into contact with during these wild parties.

BC Missing Women Investigation
Dating back to the early 1980’s women began disappearing from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. At least sixty women were missing and most all were poor, disadvantaged drug addicts or prostitutes. A task force consisting of Royal Canadian Mounted Police and members from the Vancouver Police Department working together following leads and trying to solve the mystery of the vanishing women.
The Downtown Eastside of Vancouver is the oldest part of Vancouver and is known for it’s high volume of poverty, crime, drugs, and for the center of the cities sex trade. The areas urban decay made it the ideal hunting ground for a serial killer looking for victims who wouldn’t be missed.
One name kept reoccurring during the investigation and suspicions began falling on a local pig farmer named Robert Pickton. On February 5th, 2002 police acquired a search warrant to look for supposed illegal firearms that had been reported to police and Robert was arrested on firearms charges but later released. A second warrant was issued and when personal items belonging to some of the known missing women surfaced and the task force arrested Pickton on February 22nd, 2002 and charged him with murder.

Forensic Evidence

The Pickton property was subjected to extreme excavation by forensic anthropologists and heavy equipment, including a fifty-foot conveyor belt and soil sifters to help identify human remains on the property. Identifying the remains was made more difficult because of decomposition and the fact that many of the bodies may have been fed to the farms pigs.

Enough evidence and DNA was able to be collected to positively identify at least six different victims and allow the task force to make a case for at least six murders. Pickton freely bragged about committing forty-nine murders and was disappointed that due to sloppiness he would not be able to reach his goal of fifty victims.

Most Costly Investigation and Trial in BC History

Just the investigation alone is estimated to have cost seventy million dollars. The lengthy murder trial began on January 30th, 2006 and originally included 27 counts of first-degree murder, but due to the clever destruction of much of the evidence the prosecution had to settle for just six counts.
The conviction of Robert Pickton came on December 9th, 2007 and the jury found Pickton guilty of six counts of second degree murder. The maximum sentence for second-degree murder in Canada is 25 years. The possibility of “The Pig Farm Killer” ever seeing the light of day as a free man again are astronomical and it’s still possible that other murder charges may be brought against him in the future.
Although many of the murders were unable to be proven in court and are still unsolved it’s very probable that Robert Pickton will go down in history as the most prolific serial killer in BC history.

TRACEY CONNELLY AND STEVEN BARKER

WARNING: IF YOU ARE TOO SENSITIVE DO NOT READ THIS NOTE

There are some "beings" in this world who have absolutely no soul. This "beings" seem to have been born out of the very darkest roots of hell. When I stumbled upon this story I just could not believe what I was reading, as a matter of fact I almost didn´t get through reading. It is an awful child abuse story and what this blue eyed little boy do to deserve what he suffered is beyond me.

Tracey Connely 28, and Steven Barker, 33, both of whom tortured and killed the 17 month old child, who can now be known by his full name, Peter Connelly, over a period of eight months, causing 60 seperate injuries including a broken back and ribs.

He suffered all of these injuries despite the fact that he was on the child protection register at Haringey council. He was found dead in his cot in Haringey, north London in August 2007.
The pair were convicted of causing or allowing the death of a child at the Old Bailey last November. Jason Owen, 37, was convicted of the same offence. His identity has never been protected by legal restrictions, but he has always been referred to only as the pair's lodger. It can now be revealed that he is Barker's older brother, and that Barker and Owen were charged with grievous bodily harm after an assault on their grandmother in 1995. She died of pneumonia in 1996 but the charge was dropped due to a lack of evidence. They were never pursued for a more serious charge because there was no medical evidence to link the assault to her death.
In April, Barker went on trial accused of the rape of a two-year-old girl. Connelly was alongside him in the dock accused of child cruelty after it was alleged that she witnessed the rape but did nothing to stop it.
Barker was found guilty of rape and Connelly was acquitted. But their second Old Bailey trial only went ahead after some extraordinary lengths had been taken to ensure that the jury would not be aware of their role in Peter Connelly's death. The judge imposed a complete reporting ban – forbidding the media to even refer to the existence of the second trial until its completion – and, in a legal first, agreed that they should be tried under false names – Barker becoming Steven Young and Connelly Tracey Wilson.
The ban on reporting their real names, pictures and addresses was, without exception, adhered to by all newspapers and broadcast media outlets. But many websites openly flouted the law. Since the day they were convicted last year, pictures and details of Connelly and Barker have been readily accessible on the internet.
At the beginning of the rape trial the prosecution barrister, Bernard Richmond QC, attempted to have the case thrown out, saying that the social networking site Facebook had made the prospect of a fair trial impossible. He listed a number of Facebook "groups" that named Barker or Connelly and said they had close to one million members – meaning that there was a high risk that potential jurors would recognise the defendants.
At the end of that trial the reporting restrictions were eased slightly so that the case could be reported. But the High Court order remained in place until last night. There are still some details of the cases that will never be able to be revealed to the public.
Connelly, Barker and Owen were all sentenced in May this year. Connelly was was given an indeterminate prison sentence and told she would be eligible for parole in just over three years. Barker was jailed for 12 years for his part in Peter Connelly's death and given a life sentence, to run concurrently, for the separate offence of raping a two-year-old girl. He was told he must serve a minimum of 10 years and will be eligible for parole after eight. Jason Owen was given an indeterminate sentence with a minimum of three years and could be out in two if he satisfies the parole board he is no longer a danger to the public.
Despite the relatively low minimum tariffs handed out it is unlikely that either Connelly or Barker will make parole at the first attempt. And because of the life sentence given to Barker and the indeterminate sentences given to Connelly and Owen, it is possible that all three could spend the rest of their lives behind bars.
TODAY the News of the World finally reveals the COMPLETE and UNTOLD horror of what really happened to tragic abuse victim Baby P.
Our chilling dossier, from a 15-year-old girl whoWITNESSED the stepdad's sickening torture, damns bungling social workers who failed to step in.
The terrified teenager said: "What went on was sadistic. Social Services have blood on their hands."

Horrors

The full litany of horrors inflicted on tragic Baby P will chill every decent human being to the core.
Sickening new details totally DAMN the little boy's wicked tormentors and expose the staggering extent of FAILURE by bungling social workers and doctors who let him die alone and terrified in his bloodstained cot at 17 months old.
Through the eyes of a key prosecution witness who actually discovered the body we expose the sheer brutality meted out to Baby P by his evil stepdad and covered up by his callous 27-year-old mum.
The 15-year-old source lived at the family's filthy, flea-infested north London council house with human excrement smeared across the walls and a putrid stench of stale urine that choked your throat.
Still racked with guilt that she felt too terrified to act at the time, the teenager told how the stepdad:
  • SLICED off the tot's fingertips with a Stanley knife and wrenched off his little nails with pliers.
  • SMACKED his private parts with a shoe.
  • PRESSED down on his windpipe so hard he turned blue.
  • BIT the tot all over to 'train' the family's vicious dogs to attack.
  • DROPPED him 6ft onto the floor.
  • GRABBED him by the throat and tossed him into his cot,
  • RAMMED a bottle into his mouth so hard it cut his lips.
Of all the vile cruelty the girl witnessed, the most horrifying scene was the one that crippled Baby P, leaving him paralysed from the waist down.
His warped step- father, a 32-year-old Satanist-convicted of allowing the child to die along with the mum and a paedophile lodger-was watching the Jeremy Kyle TV show with Baby P stretched across his knees.
The witness said: "He sat smirking on the sofa, smoking cannabis and playing with Baby P like he was a rag doll. Then I suddenly heard a loud crack that echoed through the house as the baby's little backbone snapped in half.
"He let out a gut- wrenching scream. It was so loud I got up and went into the garden and put my hands over my ears to block it out."
Incredibly the terrible injury went unnoticed by social workers AND paediatrician Dr Sabah Al Zayyat. The doctor also failed to notice eight fractured ribs and two missing fingernails.
The 15-year-old then revealed what finally sealed Baby P's grim fate in August, 2007-a night of constant crying that disturbed the awful household. She said: "He was wailing and wailing in his cot. He just wouldn't stop. But he'd been lying in his urine and faeces for days.
"Then the stepdad came down and said, 'I'll sort it.' He went into the room, slammed the door shut and suddenly the crying stopped."
The defenceless tot had been punched so hard in the face he swallowed a bottom tooth. It was later found in his stomach. The witness added: "I discovered Baby P dead in the cot at around 9am. He'd gone a funny colour, a pale blue, and was stiff. I told his mum he wasn't breathing but she waited until 11.30am before dialling 999 for an ambulance.
"Meanwhile the stepdad got away, taking off all the stale, blood-spattered smelly bedclothes that hadn't been washed in months and dumping them in a cemetery to try and hide the evidence."
Fearing she would be a target too, it took eight months for the 15-year-old to summon the courage and reveal her shattering story to stunned relatives. She told them: "It was disgusting and perverted what went on in that house. It went way beyond cruel, it was sadistic.
"The stepdad would shake Baby P, punch him, swing him around by his legs and spin him round on the computer chair until he came flying off and hit his head on the floor. Then he'd pick him up and do it again. He put his thumb down over the poor mite's windpipe until he turned blue and stopped breathing.
"Then he just laughed, let go and pushed it in again even harder to see how much he could take.
"He'd pinch the baby's little fingernails and squeeze them until he screamed.
"And he lanced off the tops of the tot's fingers with a Stanley knife like you would a boil. He said it made it easier for him to then use the pliers to grip onto the fingernails and rip them off. It makes me shudder.

Butting

"He made Baby P kneel in front of him, with blood oozing from the ends of his fingers, and hold out his hands for more punishment.
"Not content with that, he'd hold him above his head and then just drop him on the floor."
The boy's head and body was covered in marks and sores from when the stepdad bit him-to train his Staffordshire bull terrier and Rottweiler to do the same.
The teenager said: "The stepdad laid Baby P on his back in the middle of the room and bit at him and growled in front of the dogs. He bit into his head, his arms, his body and his legs. Then he'd get the dogs to copy.
"He also hit the baby on his genitals with a shoe and wrapped him tightly in blankets, leaving him for hours in his cot to dehydrate.
"Every night before bedtime, instead of a story like most children get to help them to sleep, he was picked up off the floor like a rag doll and tossed into his cot.
"At night I'd hear him crying and head butting the wooden bars on his cot. It went on for hours."
Just days before Baby P died-but after his spine was snapped-the girl went for a walk with him and his stepfather in Chingford Woods. The toddler couldn't stand and kept falling down.
She told Baby P's stepdad she thought his back was broken and never saw him walk unaided again. On the last full day of his life, August 2, Baby P was left alone in his room all day.
At 11pm the stepdad told her to watch as he squeezed the boy's fingers really hard. The toddler could not even find the strength to scream, she said.
He had no strength to sit up and kept falling, looking really ill and sweating. The stepdad hit him on the head and it appeared as though Baby P couldn't feel it. The lodger, Jason Owen, said the child looked as if he was dying-but the stepdad replied that he was fine.
The girl said Baby P's stepdad, a 6ft bodybuilder, ran the filthy house with an iron fist. He spent all day smoking dope and watching television surrounded by lager cans and junk food, the source said.

Animals

Neighbours complained the TV blared all day and seven children in the house ran wild like a pack of animals. Baby P's scrounging mum, who cannot be named for legal reasons, claimed thousands in benefits and slept in most mornings.
Instead of looking after her four kids she frittered away her income support playing online poker. She ignored Baby P's constant cries and spent hours in internet chat rooms. With no hint of shame, she even boasted online one of her favourite things was being a mum.
But in reality screaming Baby P, who was found with more than 50 terrible injuries, spent up to 23 hours a day caged in his cot, locked in a small, dark room with curtains shut. Sometimes he wasn't checked at all- left to lie there alone with no toys.
The stepdad, a domineering control-freak, who moved in when Baby P was three months, banned everyone from going into the dingy room or even changing P's dirty nappy.
His mother even had to ask permission to FEED him. But the witness said: "The mum ignored all the kids and let them do what they wanted.
" She was scared of her partner though. We all were. Day after day I heard screaming coming from Baby P's cot. But I didn't dare go in there. His nappy went unchanged for so long his skin just rotted away. His bottom was red raw, blistered and covered in sores."
All this should have been spotted by social workers from Haringey Council -the same authority that failed tragic Victoria Climbie in 2000-who called to see the baby SIXTY times because he was on the "at risk" register.

Infected

The witness said the mum lied and lied to them, and family friends, to cover up for her boyfriend's barbaric abuse. "She explained away pus- filled, infected cuts all over the baby's face with a string of rubbish that was simply accepted by professionals paid to look after Baby P," said the teenager. "She's a despicable mother, total scum. She told them he was clumsy and kept falling over and bumping his head. It was all lies."
Visitor Laura Swaby (who is not and has never been a health visitor) watched on one occasion when Baby P sat in the back garden shovelling fistfuls of dirt into his mouth.
She noted he had a large bruise on his forehead and seemed quiet and withdrawn. But the injury was explained away, like so many others, with a far-fetched yarn about him falling from his toy car.
"I couldn't believe these social workers kept falling for it, said the girl." Four days before he died, and with his face covered in bruises and lesions, Baby P received a final visit from social worker Maria Ward. The teenage witness said: "He was in such a state his mum was worried.
"She actually said the social worker would have to be an idiot not to notice there was something wrong.
"So she melted chocolate in a saucepan and smeared it over his face to cover the injuries.

Bleeding

"Then she laid him in his buggy because he was too limp for the high chair and put a chocolate biscuit in his hand. He had head lice anyway so she put cream on to cover up his bleeding cuts.
"The social worker didn't spot a thing. The mum couldn't believe her luck when she just had a quick look at P in his buggy and said, 'Hello little fella!' That was it. He was pushed into the kitchen. Door slammed shut. That was the last time he was seen alive by anyone outside the house.
"The heartbreaking thing is Baby P smiled at the woman. Sitting in that buggy with his back broken, eight broken ribs, fingernails missing, toenail missing and a nappy full of excrement and he still managed a smile.
"If she had just taken a second to look properly, to pick him up and look at him, she'd have realised there was something gravely wrong.
"All the social worker said before she left the house was, 'If you're taking him out later, make sure you wash his face.' It's a disgrace."

JOHN AND LINDA DOLLAR

No toys or candy wrappers, no sneakers lying around, no milk cartons carelessly left open. Most visitors to the Florida home of John and Linda Dollar never saw any signs that seven children lived there, much less any glimpse of the children. "I kept thinking, for somebody with seven kids, where are they?" says Michael Storms, a Realtor who did business with the Dollars and considered them friends. "As many times as I was in their house, I never saw any children. It's as if these kids were ghosts."

The horror of what happened to them is, sadly, all too real. On Feb. 4, after a multistate manhunt, Utah police arrested real estate appraiser John Dollar, 58, and his wife, Linda, 51, on charges they abused and tortured five of their seven adopted children for several years. Florida police say the children, ages 12 to 17, spoke of receiving electric shocks, having their feet hit with hammers, being bound with chains and having their toenails pulled out with pliers. Five of the children were allegedly forced to sleep in a 6 ft.-by-7 ft. closet. The Dollars also kept them out of school and—in a scenario reminiscent of the 2003 Raymond Jackson family scandal (see box)-they were badly malnourished. The Dollars' twin 14-year-old sons weighed 36 and 38 lbs.—about the weight of a 7-year-old. "The children said they believed they deserved this abuse, that they were being punished" for lying and stealing food, says Rhonda Evan, spokeswoman for Florida's Citrus County sheriff's office. "It's not every day we work a case where children are punished for being hungry."

Much about the case remains baffling. For some reason the Dollars spared two of their children, a 17-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, who seemed healthy and well-fed. Spiffy dressers who struck neighbors as wealthy—they drove a gold Lexus SUV and a customized motor home—the Dollars came across as outgoing, devoutly religious and strict but loving parents. "I would have said they were sweet, wholesome people who loved their children," says Storms. "I don't think they ever let anybody close enough to see their real lives." The biggest clue something was amiss—the children's striking gauntness—failed to raise red flags because people who did see the children assumed they were younger than they were. Cindy Garris, who bought a house from the Dollars in Valrico, Fla., last summer, remembers seeing five of the children sitting together on the sofa. "They didn't let out a peep, they just sat there," she says. "They were very shy and very small. I figured they were may be 5, 6 years old. I had no idea they were 14 or 15."

The disturbing phenomenon of parents starving their children "is pretty rare," says Yale University School of Medicine psychologist Joan Kaufman, who cites five such cases in the last two years. "In some of them [the abuse] may relate to the parents' own history of early abuse or neglect." On documents the Dollars submitted to Florida's Department of Children and Families to qualify for a foster-care license in 1995, Linda, who married John in 1986, said she was physically abused as a child and by her first husband. Still, the department found the Dollars, both of whom had been twice divorced, to be exemplary parents and eventually approved their last three adoptions. The reason they took on so many children, John Dollar explained on the 1995 application, was to see their "attitudes change from fear, neglect and apprehension to one of being accepted, loved and needed."

Over the next few years, the Dollars bought and sold several homes in Tennessee and Florida, picking places with plenty of privacy and rushing buyers through closings. For two years the Dollars ran a Christian school out of their home in Strawberry Plains, Tenn., though they kept their own children away from the students. "She told me it was because they were gifted and she was teaching them separately," says Paula Spradlin, whose then 6-year-old son was in the school in 1999.

Last summer the Dollars settled in a one-story, three-bedroom home in Beverly Hills, Fla., 70 miles north of Tampa. Around 4 a.m. on Jan. 21, Linda Dollar called for an ambulance for her 16-year-old son, who she said had fallen and was bleeding from the ear. Doctors at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center—alarmed that he weighed only 59 lbs. and had marks around his neck—alerted the sheriff's office, which dispatched a deputy to search the Dollars' home. By Jan. 27 all seven children had been removed from the house. "John called me crying and said they took his kids because they were underweight," says Gordon Lennon, a property appraiser who shared an office with Dollar 15 years ago. "He said one of his kids just doesn't want to eat, and there's nothing he could do about it." When the Dollars missed an emergency custody hearing on Jan. 31, police issued a warrant for their arrest and put a track on their cell phone. Utah police pulled their Lexus over on a rural highway.

The Dollar children have been placed in foster homes and are already gaining weight. The extent of the physical and mental damage they suffered, though, will take some time to determine. Meanwhile their parents remain in police custody as Florida officials investigate a crime few can even fathom. "There are going to be lots of questions," says Rhonda Evan of the sheriff's office. "But the why of this—why did this happen? why did they do it?—may never be known."

JOSEPH EDWARD DUNCAN III

Joseph E. Duncan III broke into the Groene´s house on May 15, 2005, tied everyone up and then bludgeoned Slade, 13, his mother Brenda, 39 and his stepfather, Mark McKenzie, 37 to death with a clawhammer. He took Dylan and Shasta so he could torture and molest them.
Police who came upon the scene were stunned by the sight. There was blood and gore everywhere and the faces were nearly unrecognizable. One officer who came upon the scene was so shocked by the sight that he quit police work for months afterward. An APB went out for Shasta and Dylan.
Duncan took them in a stolen 2000 Red Cherokee jeep with Missouri license plates to a very remote campsite in the Lolo National Forest  and kept them there for a few weeks, having sex with both of them and torturing Dylan. He made a video of the crimes and the video was shown to jurors and those in the courtroom. He raped Shasta and forced Shasta and Dylan to perform sex acts on each other.
The video showed Duncan raping and torturing Dylan in various ways. At one point, he takes Dylan into an old shack, where he forced Dylan to perform a sex on him and whipped him with a belt.
Then he told Dylan to stand on a bench, hung a wire around his neck, and then masturbated as he watched Dylan nearly die from hanging. “Then Jet took him down and said, ‘Wake up, wake up, wake up,’” Shasta Groene said in a police interview.
She said Dylan screamed when he woke up because he thought he had been in heaven. He then offered the half-dead Dylan an opportunity to watch his “death” by hanging on tape. A little while later, he forced Shasta to drag the half dead Dyllan through the campfire with a rope around his neck, burning him horribly. Then Duncan “accidentally” shot Dylan in the stomach with a shotgun.
He was alive and possibly could have lived for a few hours, though his guts were hanging out. Duncan decided that there was no way to save him, so he shot him in the head. It was later determined that he probably did not shoot Dylan “accidentally” after all.
After Dylan was dead, he chopped his body into little pieces and filmed himself forcing Shasta to throw the body parts on the fire. Then he forced Shasta to pick the body parts out of the fire and filmed that too.
This must set some sort of a record for evil, but I’m not sure. The FBI did say that this was the first time that they had ever heard of anyone murdering adults just to get at kids, so it does set a depravity record in that sense.
Details of whatever he did to Shasta have not been made available yet, but she was definitely raped. Normally, in this sort of thing, the names of the living kid, Shasta, would be kept secret, but her name was already out there as an APB Amber Alert, so the cat was out of the bag.
“The devil is here, boy, the devil himself. The demon couldn’t do what the devil sent him to do so the devil came himself,” Duncan yells in one of the videos. “The devil likes to watch children suffer and cry.” Duncan cracks sick jokes through the videos. In one video, Duncan jokes, “They kidnapped me – they won’t let me leave.”
In one video, he cracks, “I shouldn’t be taking pictures of you pulling up your pants like that young man – people might think I’m a pervert.” In another video, Duncan asks the kids about their wishes. Dylan says he just wants to go home.
I guess you are wondering why no one heard all this mess up in the mountains. The makeshift campsite is at the end of a very remote logging road. It’s a one-hour drive down a terrible road to get to the remote site at the bottom of a cliff. It seems like hardly anyone ever goes there.
There are a lot of remote places out in the Western forests where you can stay for weeks at a time and not see another human.
Later, on July 2, 2005, Duncan went back to a Denny’s restaurant with Shasta in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, where she was immediately spotted by a resident, who went in and told the manager, who wisely called 9-11. It was 1:30 AM and the cops pulled in with their lights off. Duncan saw the cops and took Shasta into the bathroom with him. He came out later and the police quickly surrounded the table and asked him to come outside.
Police discovered that the man was Joseph Edward Duncan III, a 43 year old fugitive sex offender from Fargo, North Dakota. He had recently been charged with molesting a 5 year old boy he knew who lived near him.
Shasta was taken back to her father, and she is with him now, as her Mom and stepfather are dead.
Joseph Edward Duncan was born, one of five in a military family, in Fort Bragg, Virginia, in 1963. His parents soon moved to Tacoma, Washington, where he grew up. He was described as lonely and displaced in high school, especially after his parents’ divorce in 1979. He soon dropped out of high school. He engaged in sex at age 8 with two of his sisters. They apparently initiated it. What this had to do with his later offenses, I have no idea.
He committed his first serious offense at age 12, when he raped a 5 year old boy, but he was not caught.
By age 15, he was charged with raping a 9 year old boy and sent to juvey. There he admitted that he had bound and raped six boys already.
He later said had already raped 13 younger boys by the time he was 16. The following year, he was arrested for stealing a car. He was a sociopath from an early age. At age 17, he was arrested, charged and sentenced to 20 years in prison (apparently as an adult) for raping a 14 year old boy at gunpoint. The tortures that he put him through were similar to those seen on the Dylan Groene tape.
At the time, he was diagnosed as a psychopath, or antisocial personality disorder under the current rubric.  This condition is impossible to treat, though some of them burn out and often descend in alcoholism and depression in their 40′s. Duncan is clearly not one of those.
He was paroled 14 years later at age 33 and sent to a halfway house in Seattle. A man named David Woelfert testified at the parole board that Duncan was no threat whatsoever. He loaned Duncan $3,000 and found a place for him at a halfway house.
Woelfert is also homosexual, and for a while, Duncan and Woelfert had a gay relationship. It looks like Woelfert was conned too. In 1996, he was released from the halfway house. Almost immediately after his release from the halfway house, he violated parole by using marijuana and possessing a firearm. He was given 30 days and released.
Apparently soon afterwards, 9-year old Carmen Cubias and her 11-year old half sister, Sammiejo White, went missing from the motel where they were staying with their homeless family. A while before, Duncan was living only three blocks away from the motel where they vanished. These girls later turned up dead, and Duncan is a prime suspect, though he will probably never be charged.
The girls were last seen by their 16-year-old brother at 8:30 pm on July 6, 1996 after they left the Crest Motel in Seattle, where they were staying with older and younger siblings and their mother. The girls were used to be out at all hours and knew their way around the neighborhood very well.
They said they were going to the Taco Time where they were going to bum some spare change so they could eat and get some money for a pack of cigarettes for their brother. Apparently they never made it.
It turns out that Duncan has confessed to Shasta Groene that he killed two little girls in Seattle. He made the same confession to investigators, but he said he did not know their names.
At the time of their disappearance, Duncan was living and working in Bothell, Washington, where the girls’ bones were found almost two years later in February, 1998, by a transient staying in an abandoned barn. They had both been murdered violently, but the details could not be ascertained. But both of their skulls had been crushed.
After Duncan was arrested for the Idaho killings, a woman came forward and said that she had worked at the Quality Food Mart in Bothell that summer.
That summer she repeatedly saw a man she now says was Duncan come into the store to buy stuff accompanied by a frightened little girl, who she now identifies as Carmen Cubias. Once again, we see that Duncan keeps his victims alive for a long time, molesting and probably torturing them before killing them.
When talking to investigators, Duncan revealed enough details of the crimes, without confessing, to convince the cops that he killed the two girls. Whether he will be charged or not is not known. After he confessed, his lawyer convinced him to clam up about any other crimes he may have committed.
On March 26, 1997, Deborah Palmer, age 7, disappeared on her way to school in Oak Harbor, Washington, about 50 miles away from Seattle. Palmer disappeared while walking the two blocks from her Kettle Street apartment home to school.
Duncan had an appointment in Seattle to take a polygraph test at an unknown time. Oak Harbor would have been a 1 1/2 hour drive away. She may have been killed in Deception Pass State Park, near where her body washed up.
The week before, around March 19, Duncan had tested positive for marijuana, which would have violated his parole. Eleven days later, he quit his Bothell job, stole his girlfriend’s car and fled his Seattle home for for California to visit his father in Pahrump Nevada. That was the very same day that Palmer’s body washed up on a Pacific Ocean beach seven miles away from Oak Harbor and the story was all over the news.
She had been raped and strangled. The previous day, Deborah’s backpack and jacket were found at a gravel pit. There is no direct evidence linking Duncan to this homicide. There are also suspicions  that a family member was involved.
After he fled to California, he killed again. This time, he took off from his Dad’s house in Vista and went to Beaumont, California, where he approached 10 year old Anthony Martinez and his brother who were playing in alley behind their home. He asked them to help find a lost cat, and they declined.
Duncan then put a knife to Anthony’s throat and shoved him into a white car. On April 19, Anthony’s nude body was found in a shallow grave 110 miles away in the desert near Indio, California. He had been raped and beaten to death and his skull had been crushed.
After his arrest in the Idaho killings, Duncan confessed to interrogators that he had killed a little boy in California. He also quite closely resembled the composite drawing of the suspect in the Martinez case.
At this point, he seems to have been living on the streets. Four months later, on August 27, 1997, Duncan was arrested by the FBI at his sister’s house  for a parole violation and sent to prison for three years.
At the hearing for the parole violation, a Fargo, North Dakota doctor, Dr. Richard Wacksman, testified that Duncan was not dangerous anymore and that upon his release, he could stay at Wacksman’s home in Fargo. The parole board disagreed and sent him away. Upon his release on July 21, 2000, he moved to Fargo, North Dakota, but it was not long before he started killing again.
After his release, in 2000, he visited Wacksman at his home in Fargo. The neighbors found out about it and confronted Wacksman. Duncan did not return to Wacksman’s home, and Wacksman soon moved to Florida. Duncan then visited Wacksman numerous times at his Florida home, where Duncan liked to scuba dive.
I do not think this Wacksman fellow is a bad guy. Psychopaths are often very charming and have the ability to convince all sorts of decent people that they are really ok, including Dr. Wacksman.
However, it should be noted that Wacksman, while married and with family, is bisexual. It seems certain that Wacksman and Duncan had a homosexual relationship.
While Duncan was living in Fargo from 2000-2005, I believe that he did not stop killing.
On February 12, 2001, Steven Earl Kraft Jr., age 12, disappeared while walking his dogs between 8-9 PM about 1/2 block from his home. The dogs were found later, but Steven is still missing. Duncan may have been involved in this kidnapping and probable homicide.
Russell Turcotte, age 19, a Turtle Mountain Chippewa, was last seen at a truck stop in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on July 12, 2002, after spending the night with friends in Fargo, North Dakota. He was returning to his home in Wolf Point, Montana from a Rainbow Gathering in Michigan.
Surveillance cameras have now revealed that Duncan was at that truck stop hours after Turcotte was there. Turcotte was hitchhiking with a backpack home on a desolate stretch of Highway 2 west of Grand Forks at around 2 AM. He was picked up, probably by Duncan, taken to a side road near Grand Forks Air Force Base.
He was probably raped before he was killed. He was then taken to Devils Lake, 90 miles west of Grand Forks, where his partially nude body was dumped and covered with brush. His possessions have vanished, probably tossed into one of the area’s many rivers and lakes. His skull had been crushed.
Months later, in Nov. 2002, his skeleton was discovered by a rancher in a clump of trees.
The surveillance camera now has Duncan at the truck stop within hours of when Turcotte was there, so the distance question seems to be ruled out. Furthermore, July 12 was a Friday, so Turcotte was last seen on a Friday night. It appears that Duncan picked him up hitchhiking about 2 AM on the morning of Saturday, July 13 and killed him soon afterward. At some point he drove 90 miles east to dump the body.
Duncan was a college student at this time and was probably working too. It’s certainly possible that he had the whole weekend off. He had lots of free time and was always traveling to the Lakes Country in Minnesota to go scuba diving. Also, Turcotte’s skull had been crushed in the same manner that Anthony Martinez, Sammiejo White and Carmen Cubias, and Slade Groene, along with Mark McKenzie had been dispatched.
In June 2003, Duncan began going on trips to Minnesota and Michigan to scuba dive. He went on dives all summer.
On June 14, 2003, Leanne "Beaner" Warner went missing from Chisholm, Minnesota. She was last seen at 5:30 PM, but was not reported missing until 9 PM. Earlier in the day, she had been at a nearby lake with her mother. Duncan was familiar with this lake. Earlier in the day, Duncan was supposedly skydiving with friends in West Fargo, North Dakota. Duncan took photos and video of this event.
On his blog, on certain days, he details everything he does, down to the last “t”. It seems he may be doing this to give himself an alibi on days when he does his crimes.
In the video, Duncan discusses scuba diving in the Chisholm area in recent days. That’s the part of Minnesota where Warner disappeared later that day. Much of the rest of the tape consists of Duncan taking video of various children running around in the air terminal.
He left the group around noon, giving him plenty of time to drive to Chisholm and kill Warner. In his very first blog entry, Duncan mysteriously mentions this crime.
On October 3, 2003, Duncan was visited by 3 police officers who accuse him of harassing women downtown. The women know who he is from the Sex Offender database and they have photos of him. He was accused of repeatedly asking them out and not going away when they told him to.
This hardly sounds like a crime. The cops say they know who he is and they watch him all the time. Guess they did not watch him enough. He writes about this incident later on his blog, The Fifth Nail.
Between late February 14 and early February 15, 2004, Justin Phillip Edwards, 13, disappeared. He was living at R. L Mills Home, a state-run facility, located at 116 East “H” Street in Casper, Wyoming since the summer of 2003. He was 5′ tall and weighed only 100 pounds and was retarded. He had the mind of a 6 year old.
In his blog entry of February 16, Duncan says he went skiing for the first time that weekend, alone. Some think he may have been involved in Edwards’ disappearance.
On July 3, 2004, Duncan molested a 7 yr old boy and trying to molest another at a school playground. He had a video camera with him. He was not caught.
In March 4, 2005, Duncan was charged with molesting a 7 year old boy and attempting to molest the boy’s friend in Detroit Lakes, Becker County, Minnesota. On April 5, a judge set his bail at $15,000. This was the July 2004 incident above.
The same day, a Fargo businessman, Joe Crary, wrote a check for that amount to the court and bailed out Duncan. Crary said he befriended Duncan when they both rode their bikes on bike trails in Fargo. Somehow, Duncan gave off the impression of being polite, soft-spoken and seemed sincere about wanting to turn his life around. Duncan also seemed sincere that he was innocent of the Minnesota charges. It should be noted, however, that Crary is apparently a homosexual who had a sexual relationship with Duncan beginning in early January 2004.
After being bailed out, Duncan made plans for his crime spree. He purchased night vision goggles and a video camcorder at a Walmart. He also purchased a shotgun, shells and a claw hammer.
On April 15, 2005, he rented a 2005 red Jeep Cherokee in St. Paul, Minnesota.
After the rental agreement was up, he never turned it back in, and on May 4, auto theft charges were filed against him. On the same day, the key tag to the stolen car was found in Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area in Wyoming, so Duncan must have been here at some point in his travels.
Between those two dates, Duncan traveled all the way to the far southwest portion of Missouri, where it meets Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. There, on April 27, he stole license plates off a vehicle and placed them on his vehicle.
On May 12 or 13, he ended up on Frontage Road at the home where the crimes occurred. He spent the next two or three days scoping out the house and on Sunday night, he entered the home with gloves, night vision goggles, a claw hammer and a shotgun.
Brenda Groene called Shasta down to the living room from where she had been sleeping. Brenda, Mark and Slade were all tied up there. Duncan quickly hustled Shasta and Dylan outside and into his van. Then he went back in to kill the others. With blows of the claw hammer, he dispatched them.
Shasta heard Mark scream, then she saw Slade try to run out of the house, wounded. He was hauled back in and dispatched. The kids in the van did not witness the killings, but Duncan later told them how he had killed her family. He told her that the name of the hammer was a Fatmax and she learned to call him "Jet" for his initials, Joseph Edward Duncan.
Since his arrest, Duncan is blogging again with the help of others from inside prison. The blog is here
